The message you might need to hear right now

It’s been a long year I’m sure you can agree? The general consensus I get from talking with people right now is that everyone is just tired, and they’ve reached that point earlier than normal.

So this might be the exact message you need to hear right now.

I was listening to a podcast recently (The Small Business Big Marketing podcast if you’re looking for some great content that I have nothing to do with) and there was a grab from there that really resonated with me, and I’m sure it will with you as well.

I will always paddle back out” – Shaun Thomson

It was originally meant as part of a surfers code, but I think it has a lot more meaning to just surfing.

Let’s look at it from a business perspective. How many times have you been knocked down this year? What choice do you have? You really have to paddle back out otherwise you might as well pack up shop and go and get a real job.

You can apply it to the home front with your kids. Especially if they’re younger like mine. It isn’t an option to give up on them. You have to paddle back out even when they might drive you to frustration.

And you can definitely apply it to what I know best, your health and fitness regime. There’s always going to be a set back with that and there’s always an excuse not to do anything.

Maybe you get sick and miss a week or two. Maybe it’s work getting in the way. Or maybe it just seems too hard at times to get it done.

But I’m here to encourage you today to paddle back out with that too. Try again. Get back on the horse.

Go back to making some time in your diary to go for a walk. Get to the gym. Or take the next step and find a trainer like me who can help keep you accountable and help you do (and achieve) what you said you would do.

If you plan it in your diary like every other aspect of your day, like your meeting at 2pm or dropping your kids off at sport or whatever, it’ll get done.

It won’t get done if it’s just left to the “I’ll get around to it later today”. Because we both know that something always comes up to get in the way.

The take home message is to remember that it doesn’t matter what has happened already this year with your training, your business or anything else in your life.

Paddle back out and have another go.

Focus on what you can do moving forward to finish the year off on a good note, rather than just phoning it in until your Christmas break.
